What is Canine Hoopers? The New Craze for Dogs and Owners

Mariann has been feeding Vet’s Kitchen to her dogs since 2016. With several agility wins this year already, Mariann also trains other owners and she has previously competed abroad, representing Great Britain in the junior team. However, it’s not just agility that Mariann loves, there’s a new craze sweeping the UK and that’s canine hoopers.

Here, she tells us what hoopers is all about:

‘Canine Hooper’s combines a series of hoops, barrels and tunnels. Dogs and their handlers work together as a team to navigate the obstacles, building confidence whilst working in partnership having fun.

It’s low impact but burns energy, an inclusive dog sport accessible for young dogs & older dogs. It strengthens the bond between you and your dog, getting your dog to listen to you. It will improve your dog’s fitness and body condition and help your dog gain confidence in themselves and you. From Chihuahuas to St Bernard Hoopers is breed inclusive. Most importantly it’s fun!

To get started, find a trainer/club local to you. On your first lesson you will need lots of exciting treats and take your dog’s favourite toy but most of all have fun’.
