How to clip your dog’s nails
January 19th 2021
We often get asked how to clip your dogs nails. If your dog walks on roads, pavements and hard surfaces, they nail will naturally wear down. If your dogs do a lot of exercise on softer surfaces such as grass, or they don’t go out as often because they’re older, you may need to clip their nails more often.
If you’ve never cut a dog’s nails before, we’d recommend going to speak to your local vet who will be able to show you the best way of cutting their nails.
White nails are easier to cut as you are able to see where the pink bit starts. Where the pink bit stops is where you want to cut the nails.
Black nails are trickier to cut because you can’t see where the pink bit stops. We recommend taking small bits off at the very end.
Use lots of positive reinforcements, reassurance and treats to help your dog get used to it. It’s like anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
