Is chocolate toxic for dogs? Immediate action needed

January 7th 2021

The short answer is yes. Chocolate is toxic for your dog. It’s due to the theobromine levels in the chocolate.

Dark chocolate contains the highest levels of theobromine, meaning it’s the worst type of chocolate for your dog to eat. Milk chocolate has slightly lower levels, but is still harmful to your dog and white chocolate is definitely the better of the 3 but is still not great for you four-legged friends.

If you see your dog eating chocolate or you think they might’ve eaten it, please contact your vet. They will be able to advise you on what to do or ask you to visit the clinic. It’s important you contact your local vet as soon as possible because even a small amount of chocolate can be very toxic to your dog.
