When should you neuter your dog?

When to neuter your dog is a controversial topic. There’s lots of pros and cons to doing it earlier or later but it’s a lot more complicated than that.
The world is always evolving and new information is cropping up all the time. But here’s a general answer to the question. Of course, this can all be dependent on your circumstances, the pet itself and whether there is a need to get the procedure done.
For female dogs, there is a stronger argument for the health benefits and the prevention that neutering can offer such a tumours, pyomtras, UTI infections. These things are all treatable, but neutering can prevent these from occuring.
There are also some downsides to neutering. Neutered animal are slightly more prone to being incontinent and overweight. They can also be prone to other types of cancer. Unfortunately, there isn’t one fail safe answer and therefore the recommendation often depends on breed.
The most common reason for neutering a male dog is there are certain behaviours such as aggression towards other dogs. Another reason is overly sexual dogs – castration can help combat the humping problem.
